Professional Sump Pump Installation, Repair & Replacement

The sump pump in your home is an important, or when you really need it, the most import appliance in your home.  Most of the time your sump pump will sit idle in your home but when you really need it is the workhorse that’ll keep your home, family and valuables safe and dry.  Any homeowner with a basement knows how important a properly sized sump pump to remove excess water from the lowest parts of your home.  In order to ensure your sump pump is ready to work when you need it, it is important to make sure your sump pump is operating in peak condition all year long.   At Astar Services, we proudly offer comprehensive sump pump services whether you need to size up your existing sump pump or if you are considering installing a sump pump for the first time.  We offer same day service and next-day installations so you’ll never be left in a pinch during the rainy season.

How to Know if Your Sump Pump is Working Properly

Before you schedule service for your sump pump, it’s important to test that it is working properly.  Performing regular testing on your sump pump will ensure you’ll avoid a flooded basement due to malfunctioning equipment or a leaky/broken pipe.

Testing your sump pump is quick and easy:

  1. Check the electrical cords – After locating your sump pump in your basement, unplug all cords and only plug back in the pump motor.  Listen carefully to make sure you’re hearing the whirl of the motor.  Be sure to plug all cords coming off your sump pump back into the outlets.
  2. Test the pumping mechanism – Remove the cover lid from your sump pump and pour half of a half of a 5-gallon bucket into the sump pump well.  The pump should turn on instantly and begin pumping water out of your home. Before replacing the lid, be sure all water is evacuated and the pump turns back off.  Repeat this process with the remaining water and again make sure your sump pump automatically turns off.
  3. Check the water evacuation pipe – Follow the pipe coming out of your sump pump and locate where it exits your home.  Find the exit pipe on the outside of your home and be sure the end of the pipe is free from debris, dirt or other obstructions that could block the flow.

If any of the tests above are unsuccessful, or if you simply want a professional opinion for that extra peace-of-mind, call the sump pump professionals at Astar Services to schedule a repair or replacement on your sump pump.
