Had a minor drip from where a valve connected to a pipe in my heating system. Called A Star, they were able to send someone same day. Assessed, quoted me the price, fixed in within an hour and a half, also did some maintemcance on my heating system and ...scheduled to come back tomorrow to finish, check everything else is in good working condition. Be careful! Astar technicians came to my house, and although Jim, the tech, was nice and professional, they charged me $200 just to vacuum underneath the boiler. The real issue arose when they told me I needed to replace the expansion tank because the ...pressure was lower than it should be—but the boiler was off, so of course, it wouldn’t show the 'correct' pressure. Then, the technician told me I also needed a new valve. He quoted $1,200 for the valve and $900 for the expansion tank. The price of the valve at Home Depot is $129, and the expansion tank costs $40. Replacing both items would take about two hours total. He then said it wasn’t worth fixing and suggested I replace the entire system. He said he’d have their sales department contact me. The technician was very polite, very knowledgeable and did a great job. He explained everything he was doing. When he was repairing the boiler he explained what was wrong with the boiler and what he did to fix it. He gave the boiler a very good cleaning.
